Hello there once again dear fellow bloggers,

I've missed you all so very much!

At long last, my new book entitled, Dark Clouds Of The Morning, is now available for purchase online @

I hope you will excuse me for not being in touch for such a long time, for well over a year, actually.
As you may well imagine, it has been a very busy time getting my book finished, then sent off to the
publishers, waiting my turn for editing, working a long time with the editor, then the for matter and on it went. I had no idea how long the process takes.

Finally, to my great delight, I was thrilled to have at last seen my book come off the press and be shipped to me in 16 boxes. There are 22 books in each box! At first I thought I would never get that many sold, but now, I thank God that a goodly portion of them have sold in just one month.

Greetings From Between The Snowflakes,

A warm hello to friends old and new, once again I am visiting at my daughters home, where I have access to her laptop computer.~ We are most happily ensconced in my daughter's lovely living room, where we are surrounded by candlelight, and enjoying hot chocolate and peanut butter cookies by the fire. Soft music is playing, in competion with the melodic purrs of her fluffy calico cat, Peaches.

Imagine my surprise, when I opened my drapes this morning and discovered a winter wonderland outside, replacing autumn leaves.~ It is unusual for us to have snow this early in the season. "How beautiful", I exclaimed, and decided I could happily embrace whatever weather our Heavenly Father sends!

My writing is moving along. I have finished one more chapter in three days! Who knows; if I don't watch out, it might actually turn into a book, after all!~ Perhaps even sooner than I thought..,

I am already inpired to get a move on, with Christmas activities, such as editing my Christmas card list and preparing scrapbooks for my three oldest grandsons. Every year I add to their books, photos of themselves during the past year. They say it's one of the best gifts they get, if not the alltime best! I assure you my dear readers , it is made with such love!

How many of you have begun your Christmas preparations, or perhaps are starting just now?~ Or, are you an early bird, who plans all years long?~ Do tell!

This year I will visit my two other dear daughters and their families in Ontario.~ Before I go, I hope to print our family newsletter, complete with photos, which my daughter, Silken Purse, has designed for several years now, using her digital photo stylings, and I then add the family news.~ It's a much loved tradition between us and oodles of fun, and receives rave reviews!

*[The little piece of artwork above is as yet incomplete, so it's a little pale and will be more vivid when complete; yet I thought I would share it with you, because it is so charming, and it is a picture depicting my grandsons when they were much younger.~ The piece is a watercolour painting by my daughter, Silken Purse]..,

~Truly dear folks, not to brag I assure you, yet we are most humbly grateful when friends share with us that our Christmas newsletter is the highlight and favorite of all the newsletters that they recieve during this most festive and holy of holiday seasons. This beloved Christmas season, when in our family, we celebrate our dear Lords birth.

We can hardly wait to share the wee little surprises and exciting , fun projects, as well as free digital art, for you to download. A Warm Autumn Welcome:

Welcome dear readers;

We are missing our dearly departed loved ones this Thanksgiving, yet I welcome you my dear blog friends, as a welcome respite. I am back at my daughter's place once again so I can gladly communicate with you once more..,
(Acidentally clicked a numbered list button; oh well)..,

Outside, we are surrounded with a canopy of colour, as the autmun leaves display their vivid shades of red, gold, orange and purple. All of us take delight in nature's showcase for as long as it lasts. Today is our Thanksgiving, as all Canadians know. Some from the U.S. have asked, "How come you don't have it in Nov., as we do?' That's because we have an earlier harvest, and need to have it when pumpkins are orange and apples are red. By late November, our fields are bare and there could even be snow on the ground. Yesterday my daughter and son-in-law took me to a lovely hotel overlooking the harbour, where we could see ships coming and going. Here we had a Thanksgiving buffet, with appetizers, main course, and desserts galore. We left stuffed like turkeys..,

Thanks to all who commented favorably on my book. I'm still working away on it.~ As you may have noticed, my main character is called Jennie. We left her having a terrible disagreement with her mother, who strongly disapproved of her overseas boyfriend. The next day she boards a train to a different location. Her mother Helen had received a telegram from her cousin Ben, asking her to come and help with her aunt, who was paralyzed by a stroke. Helen, meanwhile, has come down with a bad case of influenza, and cannot go. Jennie got time off from work to go tend her great aunt, in her mother's place. Before leaving, she arranged for her aunt to stay with her mother..,
As Jennie travels on the train, she wonders how she will manage dealing with cousin Ben. He is reported to be strange.~ How strange, she wonders?~ Does she ever reconcile with her mother?

~ (Oops; I WAS LITERALLY ALL THE WAY AT THE END OF MY POST TODAY, WHEN I JUST NOW REALIZED THAT I clicked the wrong blog button folks, when I signed in today; I WAS NOT POSTING ON WHAT I THOUGHT WAS, THE FRENCH DRESSING ROOM BLOG; BUT RATHER, I was in fact, much to my utter dismay and surprise, posting on THIS BLOG.., Oh well mom will get " a giggle" out of this when she realizes that I've accidentally posted on her blog.., I've written too much to erase it; forgive me, dear readers!.., I'll find make a way to it up to her, rest assured) ..,

OH WELL, ONWARD I GO; INSTEAD OF ERASING THIS "accidental" POST; LET'S HAVE FUN WITH IT SHALL WE?~ Choosing instead to serendipitously make the proverbial "lemonade out of lemons"!..,

I wish I could say that it's all been a bed of roses and a life filled with pretty things, unencumbered with care, but if any thing, just the opposite is true!

~ DON'T WE ALL WISH FOR "CALMER WATERS" IN LIFE, AT TIMES!?

That's why any moments of fun, joy and usefulness, that are also pretty and uplifting at the same time; those things, those blessings will get my approval any day of the week! I both needed a closet, as well as I needed cheering, like never before!

You see, far from a hard luck story, my life has been blessed with many opportunities, joys and blessing dear people! Yet; "into every life a little rain, and I slightly paraphrase; [must , does and]; will fall"..,

So kindly humour me a little on a lighter note if you will, because, "yay", the long awaited mirror arrived today!!..,

JUST A LITTLE BACK GROUND, VOCATIONAL HISTORY OF MINE:

Many years ago I was interested in becoming an interior design consultant, so I decided to help a few friends along the way with their amazing houses, here and there. But in the end folks, alas, I never really pursued that opportunity.~ I was occupied full time in those days with my art wholesale business, as well as with the additional ,stress and strain of caring for our precious elderly parents; though it was a true privilege, and I would not trade a single moment or have it any other way! ~ As a result however, unfortunately at the time, (though thankfully I am now slowly recovering), my health took a terrible "down hill turn".

TODAY IS A LOVELY NEW DAY/ A BRAND NEW OPPORTUNITY:

So today is a brand new day, and I thank God from the bottom of my heart for each golden hour and opportunity dear readers!

You see, I am hoping to form a small new company in my area, that will perhaps be named; THE FRENCH DRESSING ROOM, whereby I will offer my services, health permitting, to design Dream Dressing Room Closets and ONLY that.., Thankfully with the small, general Interior Design course that I took years ago, (though I never worked in the field other than helping friends gratis, so to speak), I was nonetheless able to gain invaluable experience & the experience overall was a good one!~ I worked hand in hand with high end cabinet makers and professionals on occasion, in conjunction with the home owners.
Also, I have made it a point to read every thing I could get my hand & "eyes" on , to remain current in the industry. I currently own a vast wealth and library of fine decorating magazines and books on interior design and closet design, as well books specifically that focus on the finer points of organizing such spaces..,

So there you have it folks, you could well say that I'm well acquainted all of the "ups and downs" of the world of Interior Design, very much so! ~ In fact, that is in part why I never went into the business; preferring instead to play a support role with my friends, gaining experience along the way.., Small is a beautiful word to me; a "tiny niche", even better suited to me!
I'm looking forward to this opportunity and yes only a handful of clients annually would be precicely what I prefer..,

WISH ME WELL WILL YOU? ~ I'LL LET YOU KNOW IF AND WHEN I DECIDE THAT I AM READY & ABLE "TO HANG OUT MY SHINGLE".,.

I fully realize that you dear readers, are all for the most part, largely are also living very far away from where I reside in Halifax, Nova Scotia, so of course you will not become my clients! Particularly whereas I am definately not planning to travel to any clients that do not reside locally.., So as much as I would dearly love to meet some of you perhaps one day, as that privilege will likely never happen, "such is life"; it's just fun having you as blogging friends!~ Yet, really more than anything folks, the FRENCH DRESSING ROOM blog was designed purely as a labour of love, so to speak and a s a way of connecting with other lovely folks like you who may enjoy similar things!..,

I VERY MUCH WANT ALL OF YOU TO FIND SOMETHING USEFUL, PRETTY AND FUN WHILE VISITING THIS BLOG;

This may well perhaps for you be only a dream, and not possible for many of you to own a dressing room , YET you are all warmly welcome to come by often and to dream a little of what YOU can do with YOUR closet space, large or small!
I plan to hopefully include many ideas that are accessible to most of you, about closet organization and planning, jewelry display and much more, because you're all treasures to me, and I'm delighted that you've come by for a visit!
I so love all of the creativity, artistic expression, beauty, innovation and helpful blogs that are out there folks; KUDOS to all of you!

Dear Mama Just Lost A Dear Friend Today / While Seeing Others After Ten Long Years; A Mixed Blessing:

Well Hello Again Lovely Folks;

I hope you've all been well and enjoying life, with family and friends these days!..,

I will update this blog for mama this time as the dear soul is very busy and fatigued.~She enjoyed a stupendous day for the most part, upon seeing an old friend and his new wife; Leo & Margareta,(having seen him ten long years ago)!

~What an absolutely lovely and gracious lady his dear new wife is !~They were visiting our area via cruise ship today, hailing from Jackson Mississippi..,

We took them on a whirlwind tour of our area in Halifax Nova Scotia, & then on to famous Peggy's Cove for lunch. Mama very much enjoyed the golden opportunity of seeing the dear fellow, after having seen him last with his dearly departed, previous wife. They had resided in Jackson Mississippi back then as well, where my mom & dad originally met, the other couple; ( That is to say, the gentleman and his late wife).

~ They had met one of those folks,of the new couple, the fellow, back when my dad was still alive, whereas they were visiting my sister and her family, who lived in Mississippi at the time..,

Mama is doing very well with the writing of her new book, having just received a highly favorable critique from her professional writers association friends!.., She was so encouraged..,

Sadly, mother will be attending the funeral soon of a dear lady, a friend to both of us who passed away suddenly today, after a short battle with cancer.

~ SHE WAS A LOVELY AND KIND CHRISTIAN LADY WHO WAS A MEMBER OF OUR CHURCH, MAMA'S SENIORS GROUP, AND WHOM HAD ATTENDED MANY AFTERNOON TEA'S AT OUR HOME OVER THE YEARS.., SHE SHALL BE MISSED!.., OUR THOUGHTS, CONDOLENCES AND PRAYERS GO OUT TO HER PRECIOUS FAMILY!

..,"How sweet the taste"; my book manuscript is almost completed!.., ( By the way dear folks, This is NOT the title of my book . It is just that it describes how I feel right now; those of you fellow writers who have ever written a book will most assuredly understand- It's often a long, " labour of love", kind of experience.
- Incidentally, this photo was taken by my daughter, who is the co-creator of this blog, it was taken of me enjoying some of the most delicious homemade gelato that we have ever tasted)!..,

* HERE IS AN EXCERPT FROM MY FIRST CHAPTER:

Just one sentence to entice you with in the meantime, shall I ?

..," Don't you like Carl? Is there something I don't know? Answer me, Mama."..,

..,(Back again folks):..,

Helen crouched in the old Morris chair in the dark parlor. This had been her husband's favorite chair. Now he was overseas in the Great War, along with her two young sons. How could she make her daughter understand?

If anything happened to her men, there would be nobody but the two of the them.
"Mama?"
Helen took a deep breath.
"Jennie, Carl's set of values are not in accordance with the way you were brought up. I'm sure you'd not be happy with him for long."

''Not be happy?" Jennie shrilled. "What do you know about Carl, anyway?" He's kind and romantic. He shows me good times. And he's promised me a big beautiful house with a maid, once the war is over. It'll sure be an improvement over this dinky box of a place we're in now.

'Things?" Helen's voice was weary. "Is that what you want? Things?"

"No, it's Carl I want. If things come with him, so much the better."
"But, Jennie dear, what about values? Suppose he comes home drunk, or sees other women, the way his father and brothers do?"

"Mama you're impossible and old- fashioned, and I'm not going to listen to you anymore."

Jennie stomped out of the room and upstairs to her bedroom.
Helen sighed, and wearily climbed the stairs herself. "God keep my daughter," she murmured, "She's so young and vulnerable."

The wind moaned eerily around the eaves that night. Was it an omen of things to come?

Hello My Dears,

I'm an elderly widow, living alone, so PLEASE, dear folks, I'd dearly love to hear an encouraging word from you , (via my daughter), whom I share this blog with. I'm a christian writer and am currently writing a book. Can't wait to share my historical fiction novel with you , probably late , Winter/ early Spring!..,

It's been awhile, and now that I'm at my daughter's, for an evening visit, I will take this opportunity to write to you once more. The weather has been glorious, with several sunny days in a row.There are chilly evenings, ushering in fall days. We had a windy night , which knocked over my white wicker rocker on the balcony. This confused my dear little, fluffy black cat, Lady Velvet. She loves to sit in this chair and couldn't figure why it was upside down. After walking around it and sniffing, she decided to curl up under it. She has a matching child's rocker of her own, which she uses on occasion, mostly when I'm in the big one. Yes, I up righted the big chair, so now she feels that she's a queen on a throne. As you can probably guess, I love my pet, and she loves me. At night, she leads me to the bedroom, mewing as she goes, and glances back to see if I'm following. Once I'm on the bed, she snuggles by my head, purring. Moments later, she'll be by my waist, where she hugs me with her tail. Then she'll lie on her back and purr when I rub her tummy, all the while gazing adoringly into my eyes. I feel God picked this little companion out for me. Now please tell me about your pets.., I 'd love to hear your comments!

Hello once again;

The Plumed Pen is moving across the miles once more!..,

Thankfully, our hurricane passed over with minimal damage. I spent the time at my daughter's home, and we hunkered down in a cozy setting, frequently folllowing STORM WATCH on TV.

Our only loss was a few leaves. It was interesting to watch the enormous waves crashing on the beaches from the safety of indoors. People were told to stay away, but would you believe it, many daredevils went surfing and swimming. Police had to pull them out and barricade all beaches. Some watched at what they thought were safe places. Three children were swept into the sea by a rogue wave,from off the rocks. Thank God the next wave washed them ashore, but you ask, where were the parents?

Thanks to all who said they'd pray for us. It helped...,

Now I need to get back to typing my manuscript!.., It is based on an actual catastropohe, that takes place several years ago, and follows the lives of family members, as they lived through loss of loved ones, homes, and suffering injuries, each in their own way. The Lord sees them through in dramatic ways, so that they can take up their lives again. Is there a romance? Of course! Now I pray I'll find a publisher.

Hello, Dear Readers,

Hope this finds everyone well, and enjoying the summer. (except for the scorching weather.)
I don't know about you, but I do mind the heat. Yet, how nice it is to be without coats, boots and mittens.
My daughter and I just went out to see the movie JULIE and JULIA. If you haven't been, I
highly recommend it. We agreed that we hadn't seen anything more delightful, and plan to see it again!..,
..,Hope this finds you in good health.
Now I must run. My plumed pen wants to be dipped in ink!.., It's good to be here with you dear folks, friends old and new, after along blogging "nap"!..,

Hello there;

Welcome to our blog; The plumed Pen of Lady Velvet. I want to introduce you to our little corner of the blogging world.

This blog, dear readers was created as a creative forum for my dear mother; AKA Lady Velvet, a gifted writer! She is currently away from her blogging but is bursting with fresh ideas to share with you soon!..,

I have created several other blogs intentionally, (and one, KIND OF by default, when I was new to blogging)!.., It was all done in naivete you see, whereas I originally created the two, Plumed Pen blogs as mentioned earlier, for my mom.

One was to be used here at my home, where I can assist her with posting her own pictures using ADOBE PHOTOSHOP, and the other was for her own use at her home.

What we didn't realize at the time was that she could not access that site with a different IP., ADDRESS, from my own at her home & at a separate location.., OH WELL., A paraphrase of the old proverbial saying...,"the best laid plans of mice and women", comes to mind!.., (My husband who is a web designer just shrugs, and wonders why we didn't realize)!

So you see folks, that is; "what she was thinking"!..,

Too may blogs you say!? --Well there's more to my reasoning, but for now, lets just leave it at that, shall we?

A Warm Hello At long Last:

Well hello there, out in blogland;

It's been a very long time since we've heard from the mysterious Lady Velvet!..,

..,A very long nap!..,In fact a long "cat nap", to be precise. You see the original Lady Velvet from which Lady Velvet has selected her blog "nom de plume', is in fact her preciuos kitty; Lady Velvet, herself!..,

Why, you may well inquire, have we not heard from her for so very long?.., Has she not been in residence?.., Well the short reply to such a reasonable query is precisely because, she does indeed reside at another residential location!

You see, dear readers, Lady Velvet is my beloved mother, the lady for whom this blog was originally created in the first place! I assisted her in creating this blog, as a vehicle for her to share directly with as many folks as she could reach, via the loving tending of this blog; The Plumed Pen- of Lady Velvet.

Our desire, was to create this blog that could be tended and added to as she wished when she visited, as well as from her home computer.

Oh well.., "such as the plans of mice and women"..,

We meant well, it's just that it didn't work out quite as we had intended; thus the long space of time where nothing was written, by her!

You see, initially, we just didn't realize that she could not log on from her own computer at her own apartment. We worked from my computer, because I have an Adobe Photoshop software program at my home and I could assist her from here with the uploading of the photos that she planned to add from time to time..,

I'll see If I can't encourage the exceptionally talented and gracious lady , whom I'm privileged by God to have as my beloved mother, to write something as her health and time permits. I can then add to her posting and off we go again, to begin anew!..,

Lady Velvet Presents: A Warm Welcome

Dear readers;

Hello and welcome to my new blog, The Plumed Pen Of Lady Velvet.

A brief introduction:

I'll begin by mentioning that the profile on this blog site, is that of my daughter's, as we have set up this blog on her computer. We'll have to perhaps recreate this blog on my computer later, if I find that I am unable to edit the content, as well as the profile, from my own home computer. Sorry for any inconvenience, as this exciting new adventure of entering the realm of "blogoshere" is brand new to me. I assure you we will work this out, no worries!

In the mean time I'll introduce myself to you, dear readers, by including my profile within this blog posting now. I'll also mention that when I do set up a blog at home on my own computer, we will try to use the same address, only that blog will then be listed as :

Primarily, my daughter and I are going to maintain two sites, at least for now, because I am not proficient in Adobe Photoshop, and she will assist me in uploading pictures from time to time.

Allow me to further introduce myself to you folks. I'll be known to you hereafter, by the moniker of Lady Velvet.

I am a Christian lady, who has long been interested in the field of creative writing. I have had short stories, articles and poems published. Currently I am working on a historical novel. I will from time to time be sharing excerpts with you. Hope you'll enjoy!
The pictures that I'm sharing with you today, were taken at my daughter's Valentines Afternoon Tea, of a friend and I who were in attendance. The photos were taken a couple of years ago. My daughter and I both love serving Afternoon Tea together, and have served many Teas in her home over the past fifteen years.
